A Blessing in Disguise?
I was a bit sad today after the Squirrelly Six and Hairy Gorilla Half got canceled yesterday due to inclimate weather. I had so much fun running that race last year and was looking forward to it. When I got up this morning the snow had melted (thank Goodness – I don’t think I could have dealt with that yet.) But the cancelation was probably a blessing in disguise.
On Friday night after work I went for a run which ended up being amazing–the temperature was perfect and I felt great. I ran 3.5 miles around my neighborhood at 9:17/mile pace. When I got back I felt fine. I took my shoes off and was walking around my apartment, barefoot. All of a sudden my left foot hurt to put pressure on it. It didn’t hurt at all during the run, which was strange. It was the same exact pain I had in my right foot during my first half marathon last year. I think it might be my plantar fasciitis rearing its ugly head. So, it was probably a good thing I didn’t run in a race today.
Of course, the day I say I want to run 15 miles a week, my foot starts to hurt and prevents me from completing my goal. Darn it!
I did to go to the gym today to get a workout in, though. I did the elliptical machine for 30 minutes, which didn’t cause too much pain to my foot, but it was a tad uncomfortable, which I followed by 10 minutes on the bike. I also went to a 60 minute hot power flow yoga class this afternoon–it was amazing!
Anyway–I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween weekend. I’ll leave you with some pictures from my festivities. My friends and I had a fun time dancing to Mirk at the MIRKenstein Halloween Party at Elda’s on Lark. I bet you can guess my costume, its an easy one. 😉

Thanks to my sister for the pictures!

I hate when my PF rears its ugly head. It can be completely deflating. Do you keep a water bottle in the freezer? I keep one and ice bottle roll out my arches after running to help offset PF pain. It really helps!

I wasn’t positive it was PF but after doing research I think it might be….pain on the outside of foot and underneath when putting pressure on it. it doesn’t hurt at all when I wear wedge shoes, but hurts more when I have no shoes on or flats. so weird. I’m going to attempt to run tomorrow and i’ll def. try the water bottle trick!

Good for you for getting to the gym even though your race was cancelled! I ran my first 10k on Saturday (The Great Sacandaga Road Race) before the snowstorm hit, and did way better than I thought I could. Reading your blog is one of the reasons I felt inspired to challenge myself, so thanks! When I have PF, I work on stretching my calf muscles, and that seems to help. That, and ibuprofen! Good luck!
