2014 Race Goals

I can’t believe that 2013 is almost over! It was pretty exciting on the racing front, though, I must say.

I ran my second full marathon, the Vermont City Marathon, back in May. Even through it rained almost the whole race, it was still a great experience, and I set a PR!

I also started hiking in 2013 and hiked 6 out of 46 Adirondack high peaks! I love running, but nothing can compare to the feeling of reaching a summit with views like this after a grueling climb up to the top.

At the summit of my first high peak, Cascade, in August 2013.

I also ran my first trail half marathon, after a summer of trail running with the ARE. The Hairy Gorilla Half was on my race wishlist for years, I finally made the commitment and ran it in October 2013.

So, with that said, today I signed up for another trail half marathon, but this one may be just a tad harder than Hairy Gorilla.

On May 4, 2014 I signed up to run the NorthFace Endurance Challenge Half in the Catskills. Bear Mountain, to be exact.

This race is up a mountain, with challenging terrain, and I can’t help but have some self-doubts after signing up. But I’m determined and excited for a new running challenge. I love trail running, even though it will be difficult…I’m ready to tackle it. Here’s to 2014.

What are your fitness goals for the new year?

Wow, that Bear Mountain half sounds awesome, but I am totally a wimp and have never trail run (pretty funny considering I love the mountains and am a 46er). My fitness goals for 2014 include my first Ragnar (Cape Cod, though I want to do ADK too to get the Docks & Dacks medal), setting a PR in the half marathon (I WILL get under 2 hours), and becoming a “half fanatic”. I also have a wonderful list of races I want to run in 2014 and I want to re-hike some of my fave High Peaks, including Gothics up the back side with the steel cable. Hopefully it will be an amazing year!
