Hiking Mt. Jo and ADK Things
This weekend was full of Adirondack goodness. I went camping near Lake Placid with my friends Meredith and John. We had grand plans of hiking some high peaks this past weekend, but weather diminished them. However, the weather was still great on Saturday after we set up camp, and decided that we better get a hike in now, just to say we saw some views. Enter Mt. Jo. The trail to Mt. Jo is at the Adirondack Loj parking lot. It was a short hike, so we didn’t mind starting the hike at about 4:30pm. First we stopped to see Heart Lake. Then we began the 1.1 mile climb on…

Hiking Big Slide and the Brothers
Friday night, my sister, our friend Brendan and I drove to Keene Valley to stay a few nights in the Adirondacks for some hiking! I wanted to take my sister up there to experience a hike and thought she would enjoy it! She is in pretty good shape, even though she doesn’t do any hiking, so I figured we could tackle a moderate but not too easy hike, so I decided on Big Slide! Saturday morning at around 8:30 am, we parked at The Garden Parking lot for $7 and it was already filling up! Everyone knew it would be a nice day for hiking, despite the previous night’s rain.…

Hiking My First High Peaks – Cascade and Porter Mountains
Friday night after work I drove up to the Lake Placid area to meet Chris and his cousins. They had been backpacking in the Adirondacks since Monday and were done—they were already settled into a KOA Campground in Wilmington, and I was meeting them up there for some camping! First, I met them at Lake Placid Pub and Brewery for dinner, after driving 2+ hours a beer was much needed! For dinner I ordered the maple and pear flatbread. The flavors were great but this flatbread was way overdone. Should have been taken out of the oven way earlier, I think I cut my mouth on the crispy edges about…

In Lake Placid
After the Ragnar Relay, Chris and I were pretty beat. My parents had met us at the finish line of the Ragnar Relay. I had booked a hotel in Lake Placid for Saturday night months in advance, and our team was heading straight home after the race. That meant we needed a ride home! My parents came to the rescue because they are awesome and wanted to see some of the sights in Lake Placid. My parents had already checked into the hotel, the Econo Lodge right down the street from the Finish Area of the race. Our team dropped us off and we said our goodbyes! Time to relax!…

Adirondack Ragnar Relay
Its official. We’re Ragnarians! Team B.A.D. started off in Saratoga Springs at 8:00 Friday morning! Melissa, our team captain, started out the 192.7 mile relay with her first leg in Saratoga. Yes, it was raining…for the whole day on Friday. Anyway, our van (van 1) was first to go, meaning we had the earlier start. We each ran our legs until We got to the the first major exchange to let van 2 take the lead. Look who was working at the exchange in Saratoga! Alicia! She was awesome for coming out in the rain as one of our Team’s volunteers. My leg was the 5th leg and I ran…
