Mastodon Challenge 15K

This morning I ran the Mastodon Challenge 15K. My friend Loretta and her boyfriend were running and convinced me to run it as a training run. Which was good, because I hadn’t run any miles this week, at all.

It was raining on my drive over to Cohoes and it rained until the race started at 9am. My jacket came off at .3 miles into the race, ha. The sun came out and it was really warm.

Since I had zero goals for this race, I just wanted to take my time and enjoy the scenery. A portion of the race is run on the Colonie bike path, which I always like running on.

I managed to run most of the hills, which was a big change from the last time I ran this race! I kept a steady pace and walked through all the water stops to make sure I was adequately hydrated. It was so warm and humid!

Race finished in 1:39:01. I beat my previous time by like 29 seconds.

My legs were a little tired, but not too bad considering I’ve run two half marathons in the past two weeks.

I was wondering what was going on as I ran through Cohoes last weekend and saw a water station and race staff blocking off the street. I must have come through before the racers – I’ll have to remember this one next year. 15k’s can be hard to come by and I like finding a longer race that can double as my long run.
