Hiking Lower Wolfjaw Mountain
I took the day off from work on Friday to hike with Christine. Since Brendan and I didn’t hike Lower Wolfjaw when he hiked Gothics, Armstrong and Upper Wolfjaw, we decided it would be an “easy” peak to tackle on its own. We left Albany around 7 and parked at the Ausable Club lot headed in via the White Trail at around 9am.
The trail was soft and not rocky which was nice on the feet. However, it was steep! It was straight up for almost the entire trip up.
Just a heads up, there were many random trails leading to nowhere during the hike–we made sure to pay attention and look for trail markers. They were few and far between!
I didn’t think there was going to be many views on LWJ, but turns out I was wrong! We had a nice view of Noonmark.

But we weren’t at the top quite yet. There was one steep section but it wasn’t too bad. Its nice when there are a lot of tree roots to grab onto on the way up. I’m getting better at this part.
It took us about 3.5 hours to get to the summit-we got there around 12:30. And now I’m officially halfway done with the 46 high peaks!
We stopped on the top for lunch and chatted with some other hikers. Many of which were hiking the Lower Great Range.
It was a nice day in the high peaks. I have been spending a lot of time in the mountains lately. I’m extremely thankful that I’m physically able to hike these mountains and I know how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful area! I’m also thankful for all the friends I’ve made thus far in my hiking journey. Hiking the high peaks is more to me than just checking peaks off a list. I love that I get to experience the Adirondack wilderness and spend time outdoors all day doing something I love, in a place I love.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.
