Exploring Columbia River Gorge
For the next leg of my PNW trip, my sister and I drove from Mount Hood to Columbia River Gorge. We stopped at Multnomah Falls, the Bridge of the Gods, a Sturgeon Fish Hatchery, and then had lunch at Broder Ost in Hood River. We did have a long drive ahead of us, as we were on our way to our next stop: Mount Rainier in Washington. We drove about halfway to Ashford, Washington, where our air BNB was when we had to turn around and find an alternate route due to road closures. I had wanted to take a scenic route through the Cascades, but the remote roads were…

Hiking in Mount Hood National Forest – Oregon
I finally got to visit a place that has been on my list for ages – the pacific northwest! At the beginning of the month, my sister and I flew from Newark, New Jersey to Portland, Oregon for a week of vacation. We arrived in Portland on Saturday night, picked up our car at the Portland Airport, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and drove about an hour to Mount Hood Village. Our Air BnB was a tiny cabin in the most magical forest! It looked like something straight out of Instagram. It was nestled in Mount Hood National Forest. The next day, we hiked to Mirror Lake. The trailhead parking is…

Hiking in New Mexico
Last month for Martin Luther King Day weekend, my friend Margaret and I took a trip to El Paso, Texas to visit our good friend Jenna. Jenna recent moved there so we decided it was time for a visit. One of the nights we were there we walked over the bridge to Juarez, Mexico, where we had drinks and some Mexican steak! It was mine and Margaret’s first time in Mexico which was exciting. The next day we went for a hike in the Organ Mountains, part of the Desert Peaks National Monument, in New Mexico. It was beautiful! We started our hike at the Dripping Springs Visitor Center (it was…

Hiking Sleeping Beauty – 12.30.18
A few weeks ago my sister and dad joined me for a hike up Sleeping Beauty, a popular mountain near Lake George, and a part of the fairly new “Lake George 12ster Challenge”. I’ve hiked it a few times already, the first being a little over 10 years ago as my very first ADK hike, as well as my very first solo hike. It holds a special place in my heart! On Sunday I got to share it with part of my family! I love Sleeping Beauty because it was my very first Adirondack hike over ten years ago. There are a few trail options for this hike. We chose…

Winter Wonderland in the High Peaks – Hiking Phelps 12.8.18
Last week I got an invite from my friend Alicia to hike Phelps with her and our friend Francis. The weather was looking a bit cold, but I decided to join them since it had been a while since I’d hiked and was craving a long outdoor adventure. It had also been a while since I’d been on snowshoes (more like 2 years)! Alicia and I met at the exit 12 park and ride at 5:30am and drove up the Loj to meet Francis and his friend Mike. We arrived at the trailhead and the car’s thermometer read -14. Yikes! Thankfully we were all prepared with the appropriate cold weather…
