2015 After the Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon

Sunday I ran the After the Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon for the second time! I raved about this race last year due to the gorgeous scenery and this year it did not disappoint! We had chilly weather because it was a little breezy but once I started running, I was fine. This race is held at Lake Minnewaska State Park Preserve and runs through the Shawangunk Ridgeline. Beautiful! The course also loops around Lake Awosting and Lake Minnewaska. I think the race ran in the opposite direction this time. The first half went up the mountain. Yikes. There was a total elevation gain of 1,012′ — and after a…

Solo Hike to Owls Head Mountain

Last weekend Jordan and I attended a wedding up in Lake Placid. Of course I had to stop and pull over on the side of the road to enjoy the views of my favorite peaks. Sometimes I just stare at them and think–wow, I can’t believe I’ve climbed most of those! They look so big, even from far away. On the way home I stopped at one of my favorite hikes, Owls Head, in Keene. I hiked it with my parents last summer and knew it was easy (it was a spur of the moment decision). I happened to have a pair of hiking boots in my car. Jordan and…

    2015 Mohawk Hudson Half Marathon

Another Hudson Mohawk Half in the books! Sunday was my fourth HM Half, and we had the perfect day for it! It was a little bit chilly at the start, but not too bad. Turns out all I needed was a pair of throw-away gloves. The first mile of this race is always super slow for me. It weaves around the Colonie Town Park and eventually goes to the bike path where I can finally get my stride going. The key to this year’s race was the fact that I had no goals. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go because I didn’t particularly train for it. I ran…

    Recap of Summer Hiking

Summer 2015 was definitely the best summer for hiking I’ve had! It was incredible because I didn’t have a single bad weather day! Here’s a little recap. June Pyramid, Gothics, Armstrong & Upper Wolf Jaw Mountains This was my first big hike of the year. I hiked a few times before this just to get my legs in shape and tackled most of the lower great range with Brendan back in June. It was a long day, but had some great views. I felt strong and this hike convinced me that I wanted to take on a bunch of high peaks this summer. July Street and Nye Mountains This hike…

    Mountain Biking at Garnet Hill

Because of the Monday holiday, Jordan and I actually had the same day off for once! We took the opportunity to go mountain biking in the Adirondacks with some friends at Garnet Hill. Three years ago I stayed at the Lodge and did some hiking on the trails and it was nice to finally be back! According to their site, two of the trails we rode were “advanced”–but I beg to differ. I didn’t have to get off my bike that much! The first time I rode a mountain bike back in June on actual trails, we went on really difficult ones and I was hardly ever on the bike.…
