Akron Rubber Ducks 5K

Friday Chris and I drove back out to Ohio (we stopped in Pittsburgh first) and arrived in Ohio on Saturday. The reason we are here is because Chris got a job here and is officially an Ohio resident. Things are going to be different, but I’m trying to look on the bright side of things. I’m here helping him get settled until Friday, when I fly to Boston for the Runner’s World Heartbreak Hill Half Festival.

Anyway, Sunday morning we decided to run the Akron Rubber Ducks 5K. Akron is only 20 minutes from where he lives now, and we were planning on going to a baseball game in Akron while we were here. Low and behold we found a 5K that was being held right before the game at Canal Park. With your race registration you got a ticket to the game and two free drinks. Score.

We arrived in time to get our packets and check out the Stadium. It was pretty cool.

The race began and we ran through Akron and then through a nearby park, which was nice. I enjoyed it!

I had taken some time off for the past week due to an issue with my ankle, but it seemed to be healed, so I just took my time during the race. We finished in around 34 minutes.

After the race, we changed and then hung out in the stadium waiting for the baseball game to begin. It was a fun day.

My next race is the Runner’s World hat trick in Boston this coming weekend. To be honest, my training for these three races has been pretty much non existent due to an injury and other things out of my control.  I have no idea what to expect. I’m just hoping the  mileage base I had before getting injured is good enough to get me through a 5K, 10K and half marathon in one weekend.
