ACL Injury,  Injuries

ACL Recovery Log #1

Time for a knee update! Since my last post, I’ve weaned myself from using the crutches! Hurray! It’s the little things. I still use once crutch from time to time and use both when I don’t have a brace on. However, I haven’t tried putting any weight on my knee without the brace since I’m terrified my knee will give out again. Today I walked into work for the first time without crutches.

Yesterday was also my first day back at the gym! I had some anxiety about walking into the gym—I was worried that parking lot would be too icy and snowy for me to walk in but thankfully it was clear and salted. I spent about 30 minutes doing upper body weight machines and about 15 minutes doing ab work on the floor, with some one-legged pushups on my good knee. After the gym, I met my friend for a pedicure. I’m really trying to focus on spending time doing things I didn’t have time to do when I wasn’t injured, like treating myself to a pedicure and spending quality time with friends.

I’ve also reconnected with my love of knitting! I learned to knit in 2008. A friend/co-worker taught me and when I first started, I knit a lot of projects—hats, scarves, and mittens. My last completed project was in 2014. In 2015 I started an infinity scarf that I finally finished, five years later.

It’s sad that it took a severe knee injury for me to finish it. But since completing that scarf, I’ve finished eight more projects. I’ve been making a lot of hats with chunky yarn, which makes for quick knits.

I have plans to start my first ever sweater soon! Last Saturday morning, Jona and I got up super early for a 6am sale on delicious yarn at The Spinning Room in Altamont. I scored an amazing deal on wool yarn for my sweater, along with some Malabrigo yarn that I’ve been eying for a decade but have never purchased. Until now! It’s beautiful.

I’ve also been photographing yarn and my projects for my Ravelry account. Jordan and I got a nice camera with some of our wedding money, a Fuji XT-20. One of my next goals is to learn how to use it properly without instantly setting it to auto.

So that’s it so far. My next appointment is a little over a week away and I’ll have more to update after that I’m sure.
