A Special Race

Sunday is the Mohawk Hudson River Half Marathon (and full marathon). This race has  a special place in my heart since it was my very first half marathon three years ago today. I ran it on 10.10.10 and I knew that was a sign! This year it will be my 10th half marathon.

This race opened the doors for me to long distance running. At the time I couldn’t believe I was running 13.1 miles. Back then I never though I’d run a full marathon, let alone two of them. I’ve achieved things I never though possible, met some amazing people, and found things within myself I never knew existed.

Long distance running has taught me to set goals and follow through with my plans to reach them. It has taught me to believe in myself and try for the impossible. Its taught me self-determination. Not only has it made me healthier, but it has made me a better person.

Things might not go as planned on Sunday, but I’m okay with that. I’m hoping for the best and I’m going to give it my all.

Good luck to everyone running Mohawk Hudson and any of the other races happening this weekend. Run fast!
