Hiking Big Slide and the Brothers
Friday night, my sister, our friend Brendan and I drove to Keene Valley to stay a few nights in the Adirondacks for some hiking! I wanted to take my sister up there to experience a hike and thought she would enjoy it! She is in pretty good shape, even though she doesn’t do any hiking, so I figured we could tackle a moderate but not too easy hike, so I decided on Big Slide! Saturday morning at around 8:30 am, we parked at The Garden Parking lot for $7 and it was already filling up! Everyone knew it would be a nice day for hiking, despite the previous night’s rain.…

Windham High Peak and Burnt Knob Loop
Yesterday was perfection. If every day could be like yesterday, I’d be a very happy person indeed. Chris and I drove South for a hike in the Catskills. One of the reasons we’ve been hiking down here lately is because there is still snow in the High Peaks and they close some of the trails up there. So, it’s warmer south, and there is no snow in sight. Yesterday was perfect for a hike in the Catskills. I pretty much choose my hikes based on ease and whether or not its on the list of “hikes with the best views”. So I picked Windham High Peak and the Burnt Knob…

Goals for my 29th Year
Today is my 29th birthday. The last year of my 20s! I can hardly believe it. I feel like it was just yesterday I was 18 and starting college. Its a big year for me! I have a lot going on this summer and fall and wanted to make a list of my current goals that I want to complete before I turn 3-0 next year. Finish the Northface Endurance Challenge. That’s it, just finish without getting pulled from the course or breaking my neck. I am very well aware that this race is going to be a difficult one. My first priory is to have fun and enjoy the…

Hiking Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain – Catskills
Finally, a weekend spent (almost) entirely outside!! I have been waiting for this. To keep up with goal of hiking one mountain per month, yesterday I went hiking with Chris and our friends Meredith and John. It was a PERFECT day. Yesterday’s high was 80 degrees. There is still a ton of snow in the Adirondacks, so we decided to try another hike in the Catskills. Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain not far from Slide where we hiked the last time. Most of the snow was completely gone, but when we got to higher elevations there was about a foot in some spots. We decided to leave our snowshoes behind…

Hiking Buck Mountain
I’ve made it a personal goal to hike at least one mountain per month! After I realized I had hiked at least once since August, I knew I could keep going to keep up my hiking fitness. Yesterday my friend Meredith and I went up to Lake George to hike Buck Mountain. She had hiked it a bunch of times but never in winter conditions with snowshoes. I have never hiked Buck before so it was on my list of hikes to do eventually! Conditions for snowshoeing the trail were great. We carried microspikes with us just in case, but kept the snowshoes on the entire hike…they were really needed…
