    Blue Mountain Firetower

The weather here for the past week and half has been just amazing. I took the opportunity to head back up North for a hike to get the legs back into climbing. I decided on Blue Mountain, right outside the small town of Blue Mountain Lake, close to the Adirondack Museum. The trailhead is located just north of the museum on the opposite side Route 28N. A two mile trek one-way, this hike seemed like the perfect one to try out on my own for the first time! Technically I wasn’t 100% alone. Jordan and I were pet-sitting for some friends over the weekend, so I took along Zahra, one…

    Weekend Update

Friday night a few friends and I went to Troy Night Out! We went to Troy Cloth & Paper’s Print Off. They were selling prints designed by the Artist of the Month and I knew I wanted one, it was awesome. We wandered around downtown a little bit before stopping at Bacchus for some pizza. I’ve only been here a few times, but every time the pizza is great. The crust is extremely thin and crispy, the pizza has lots of flavor and it’s not overloaded with cheese. After dinner we walked over to Peck’s Arcade, the new spot next to the Confectionery. This place is extremely hip. I loved…

Snowshoeing Adventures: Hadley Mountain Firetower and Petersburgh Pass

Last week after a few big snow storms, I took the new boyfriend Jordan for his first snowshoe hike. He recently got a pair of snowshoes and was anxious to try them out. I decided on Hadley Mountain because it’s pretty close to Albany and it’s a short hike with some awesome views. It was a gorgeous day for a snowshoe hike! The trek up was a little tough because the hikers before us had left a trail, but weren’t wearing snowshoes. It was kind of a pain. This is one of my pet peeves about winter hiking. When there is two feet of snow on the ground, you wear…

Snowshoeing at Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve

Saturday afternoon Meredith, Jenna and I went on a local snowshoe excursion at the Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve in Clifton Park. The previous week dumped a ton of snow on the Capital Region. I had been waiting for that just so I could get out my snowshoes. Saturday was another snowy day, but the temps were warmer (in the 30s, I think!) so it was perfect for getting outside and enjoying the trails. There is a trail that runs along the Mohawk, directly across from my favorite running route, the Niskayuna bike path. It was cool to see the river from a different perspective! The river was completely frozen over…

Snowy Hike at Moreau Lake State Park

So I did not fall off the face of the Earth! Truth be told, I haven’t done anything too exciting lately in the world of running or hiking, so I didn’t feel the need to post. School started up this past week again and I’ve been busy getting ready for that! Thankfully today I had to the chance to get out and enjoy the fresh winter air. I went up to Moreau Lake State Park today with a couple of girls from my Ragnar team, Emily and Jenna. I had never been to Moreau and was very interested in checking out the trails. We walked in through the main road,…
