Kayaking the Rollins Loop – St Regis Canoe Area
For our first anniversary, Jordan and I decided to take a camping trip to Rollins Pond, our favorite campground. I love Rollins because almost every site has water access, which is perfect since we now both have kayaks. On Sunday, I had planned a kayaking trip for us: the Rollins Loop which we could paddle directly from our campsite. After cooking breakfast and getting our gear ready, we started around 11am. We paddled through Rollins Pond first, staying to the right side of the shoreline. I had read that there is a small flowing stream that leads to the next body of water, Floodwood Pond. There is a portage trail…

ACL Recovery Log – 16 Weeks Post Op
Knee Update Currently, I’m 16 weeks post-op and not much has changed since my last update. In PT we’re still working on light plyometrics, hopping, jumping, skipping, and prepping my knee for…JOGGING. That’s a scary thought! I can’t remember the last time I went for a run before getting injured. A quick look back on my Strava account tells me the last time I ran was on November 19, 2019 – on the treadmill at the gym. EIGHT MONTHS AGO. Per my rehab protocol, I can start running at PT next week. But I have to say, I’m not hopeful that it’s going to go well. My knee still feels…

ACL Recovery Log #13 – 10 Weeks Post Op
This past weekend I celebrated my 35th birthday! The weather was beautiful, and I was able to get outside and ride the bike! Jordan and I decided to ride with some friends (while maintaining a safe distance) on the Vischer Ferry trail. Since it’s not far from our house we thought it would be a nice place to ride since it’s flat. But everyone else had the same idea—the trail was crowded in some spots. We wore our buffs that we pulled up whenever we passed other people. But the number of people NOT wearing face-covering was surprising. We rode 7 miles out and back—on the last few miles I…

2014 Trail Running Camp at Dippikill
This past weekend I finally participated in something I’ve been wanting to do for a while–but couldn’t for various reasons–the ARE’s Trail Running Camp! TRC is a three night getaway at Camp Dippikill in the Adirondacks for runners who want to learn more about/experience some trail running. It’s open to runners of all abilities and is pretty much a guaranteed fun time. Thursday night I arrived at around 4:45 on Thursday night, checked in and got my bib for the evening’s run, along with our handbook and our Frog. The theme of camp is Frogs–because of the Froggy Five Mile Race held on Sunday. Frogs were everywhere! I was staying…

Kayaking on the St. Sebastian River
I almost forgot to post about my first time kayaking while in Florida. The pictures were on my digital camera and I didn’t bring the cord with me on vacation–so I nearly forgot. The tour guide said that up to 60 manatees live in this part of the river in the winter–I really wanted to see some! So we got into our kayaks–there were five of us total. It was my sister’s first time paddling and it was my second. Last summer Chris and I took out a canoe on Thirteenth Lake in the Adirondacks and he sort of taught me how to do it…so at least it wasn’t completely…
