A Trip to the Market

Thank you to everyone who commented on my last post. It means a lot to me to know that some of you are going through the same thing and I’m not alone! I feel better already. 🙂

Last night something important happened.

Some of you may already know that I have a slight obsession with the Harry Potter series. Last night Part 1 of the final movie, The Deathly Hallows came out in theaters at midnight, and I was in attendance! This has been the 5th Harry Potter movie I’ve seen at midnight (yeah, I’m a hardcore nerd like that). My friend Brendan and I waited in line from about 8:30 until they let us in the theater at around 9:30, and then we waited in the theater until it started. I always find it fun to be sitting in the theater with crazy loyal fans just like myself.

I won’t give anything away but I thought the movie was great. It lived up to my expectations and was extremely true to the book. The only downside is that now I have to wait until July 2011 to see the rest of it!

Today I took the day off from work, so I ended up going to lunch with my cousin Liz. We went to the Iron Gate Cafe on Washington Avenue, a nice little lunch spot!

I ordered the Tuscan Sandwich: mozzarella, pesto and tomato on crusty bread. It was so good.

After lunch, Liz and I hit up the Fresh Market! I’ve been wanting to see what the big deal was about this place, so we drove over to  Latham to check it out.

It really was nice inside! The food looks really good.

So many gorgeous flowers!

Fresh cranberries in their own bog? Really? We got a kick out of this…

The desserts…

My overall impression of the place: it was a bit too pricey for what it was. I mean, half the stuff here I could find on sale in Hannaford for half the price. It was a bit ridiculous, but I can see why people shop here. They do have a lot of delicious looking gourmet food.

I didn’t leave empty handed though.

I picked up the following:

  • Stash Christmas Eve herbal tea
  • Stash White Christmas white tea
  • Canned butternut squash
  • Apple cinnamon flaxseed waffles
  • Eggplant cutlets
  • Yogi green tea kombucha
  • Herbed goat cheese (unpictured)

I can’t wait to try the waffles!

And the eggplant.

I think I’m going to use the goat cheese in a dish I’m making for Thanksgiving! (More on that later!)

I probably won’t make the effort to get back over to the Fresh Market again any time soon, but they had a few interesting products. Right now my favorite local grocery store has to be Hannaford. Trader Joe’s might be my all time favorite, but we don’t have any around here. 🙁

What’s your favorite grocery store and why?
