Wright Peak – 7.11.21
After a 2 year hiatus, Brendan and I finally summited a high peak together, Wright Peak! Brendan is almost done with his 46er Journey. He’s hiked almost all 40 of his high peaks with me over the years and on Sunday he hit #40, with Wright. Our original plan was to hike the trio, Algonquin, Iroquois and Wright together, but since it’s been so long since our last big day, we decided to break it up to make it a little easier. At 4,587 ft in elevation, Wright is the 16th highest peak in the Adirondacks. At only about 7 mi RT with ~2,500 ft of ascent, Wright on it’s…

Hike to Allen Interior and Madera Hammock Review
This weekend I joined my friend Skyler on his hike to Allen Mountain, one of the 46 high peaks. I hiked Allen back in 2014 and really enjoyed it so I tagged along with Skyler. We met at 4:30am at Exit 12, arrived at the Allen trailhead on Upper Works road around 6:15 am. We were hiking by 6:30. An early start is always good with Allen, as the total mileage is about 19 miles. There is a brand new suspension bridge over the Opalescent River. Three years ago we had to wade across! Most of the first 5.5 miles are on old logging / mining roads, which…

Yard Mountain, Big Slide and the Brothers Loop
Since finishing hiking the 46 high peaks last month, I took a much needed break! However, I can’t stay away from the mountains for too long. My new hiking friend was looking to hike in the high peaks on Saturday and I couldn’t resist joining him. The great part is, now I can hike what I want, whenever I want! There are bunch of peaks I want to hike again, taking new routes. YEsterday, we decided to hike Big Slide, one of the easier high peaks. Instead of doing the popular out and back route over the Brothers, we chose to take the trail into the John’s Brook Lodge, ascending Yard…

My 46er Finish on Esther and Whiteface Mountains
Saturday afternoon after hiking Seymour, I was pretty tired. I decided ahead of time to get a space at Tmax & Topo’s in Keene, a hiker hostel. It’s owned by some pretty legendary 46ers (they even made an appearance in the The 46ers Film!) and is frequented by high peaks hikers. So staying here on the eve of my finish, along with so many other accomplished hikers, seemed fitting. I showered, cooked my dinner (trader joe’s boxed mac and cheese!) and hunkered down in my room, reflecting on the journey while other hikers milled about discussing their day’s hikes. I chatted with my bunkmate who had just hiked Marshall. He was…
