Mountain Biking at Elm Ridge
This post is a bit delayed, so my apologies in advance. Last month a few of the girls and I drove down after work for an afternoon ride at Elm Ridge near Windham in the Catskills. (Very stoked to have a group of MTB ladies to ride with now!) Even though we arrived to the trailhead 6pm, we still have lots of daylight to get some good riding in. The trails at Elm Ridge are great. Despite a lot of initial climbing to get to the ridge, the descent makes it all the worth it. The trail starts across the street from the parking area for the Escarpment Trail and climbs…

Mountain Biking in Sedona, AZ
At the beginning of June, Jordan and I went on a mountain biking trip to Sedona, Arizona. Our good friends Jason and Aubrey invited us on a short mountain biking vacation. We debated renting bikes out there, but because we both love our own bikes, we decided to pack them up and bring them with us. I used the Biknd Jetpack and loved it. It was super easy to take apart the bike and pack it up and my bike stayed safe and sound during travel. We arrived in Phoenix on Wednesday evening, drove to our rental (a gorgeous house in Cornville, AZ) for one night and then got ready…

#WomensMTBDay
Yesterday was the 1st International Women’s Mountain Biking Day! It’s pretty rad that we now have a day dedicated to women mtb-ers. I didn’t always love mountain biking. When I first started riding, I was extremely intimidated–I rode with people that were way more experienced than I was. I rode pretty gnarly trails (mostly hiked them), but I kept riding-determined to get better. With each ride, I conquered a fear, whether it was steep descent, a technical rooty section, or a rock garden. With each ride, I got better. And that’s the thing about mountain biking–with every ride, there is the opportunity to become a better rider. There’s nothing more confidence-boosting…

Riding with the Saratoga Women’s MTB Collective
A few months ago I joined the Saratoga Women’s MTB collective, a group on facebook dedicated to ladies who ride. It’s founder, Cath, had recently moved to the capital region and couldn’t find a women’s riding group so she started her own. Now there are 60+ members! Cath organizes group rides (held the second Sunday of the month!) as well as bike maintenance clinics at Blue Sky Bicycles. Yesterday I went on my first group ride at KP Trails in Saratoga. At first, the ride was a bit out of my comfort zone as I’m not used to riding with unfamiliar people. However, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. It was…

Fat Biking at KP Trails in Saratoga
A few weeks ago Jordan and I got out the fat bikes for a ride at Kalabus Perry trails in Saratoga. The recent March snowstorms had dumped a generous amount snow on the ground, so we decided to take advantage. This winter hasn’t been the best for fat biking due to the fluctuation in temperatures. With temps above freezing, snow gets really soft and hard for the tires to get much traction. On this particular day, it was in the low 40s. Lowering the PSI in our tires helped a little bit, but the snow was still very soft! The below is a great graphic explaining fat biking tire…
