The Toad Strangler – 4.3.2022
The first gravel event of the 2022 season is in the books! Yesterday, my friend Margaret and I rode the Toad Strangler, a new 39 mile route in Chatham that was organized by the same group that organizes the Farmer’s Daughter Gravel Grinder! The bike was ready to go! (I am planning on doing a full post about my new bike–stay tuned!) Unsure what to wear for this ride with the weather forecasted in the 40s with chance of light rain, I packed almost every jacket I own and ultimately ended up wearing a light rain jacket (the Outdoor Research Helium jacket) which turned out to be a little too…

Favorite Cycling Gear 2021
It’s been a while since I did a biking gear post (2017 to be exact). So here’s an updated gear list, aimed toward gear I use when gravel riding. *None of these items are sponsored! This is just my honest opinion on gear that I like. Purist 26 oz water bottles I can’t believe it took me this long to find a great cycling water bottle. I had been using freebie bottles that I’ve received over the years, drinking water that tasted like plastic during my rides. Well, no more of that. “Purist treatment infuses the bottle’s interior with silicon dioxide to prevent odors, stains and mold from attaching to…

A Professional Bike Fitting Experience
A few weekends ago, Jordan and I drove up to Poultney, Vermont so I could get a professional bike fitting. A bike fitting is when a professional take a measurement of your body, observe you riding your bike, and then makes adjustments to ensure you have the bike set up properly for comfort (and in a racer’s case, maximum speed and power output). Ever since I got my gravel bike in May of 2018, my hands have gone numb on longer rides. I had tried everything to prevent this from happening, including trying all different types of gloves—pads, no pads, fingerless, and full-fingered— to no avail. I have always loved…

2018 Gravel Gobbler
About a month ago I saw the Mohawk Hudson Cycling Club was organizing a “Gravel Gobbler”, or a gravel ride! It had been ages since I’d ridden actual gravel/dirt roads on my gravel bike so I signed up (for a $25 fee, which was donated to the Regional Food Bank) and convinced my friend Morgan to ride with me. The Gobbler started at S&S Farm Brewery in Nassau, about 35 minutes from home. It had snowed on Friday, so I was a little concerned the dirt roads would be covered in snow, but thankfully the warmer temps just made the dirt roads wet. The ride started at 1:15, which I…

Cycling Gear
Here is some of the cycling gear I use. (Note: all products are Amazon Affiliate links to my Store–if your happen to purchase any you will help support Jen is Green!) I purchased all of my gear. Most of everything I happened to find on clearance or discount, even my hybrid bike was on sale. Fuelbelt Fuel Box. I needed something to keep my food and phone handy. I only have 1 bike jersey with rear pockets and sometimes its dirty when I want to go for a ride, so I needed something where I wasn’t constantly taking my pack off to get to my food. This does the trick.…
