    What is Tempeh?

Sunday night I made a dish out of my new cookbook (that I won over at Relishments!), How to Cook Everything Vegetarian.   A lot of the recipes in here are easy and they don’t have strange ingredients that I have to search high and low for. So far I’ve made two recipes from this, the first being Wild Rice with Roasted Winter Squash. It came out amazing and lasted me a week’s worth of lunches! Anyway, the second recipe I tried was Tempeh with Brown Rice and Spinach. Whenever I mention tempeh, I get weird looks. What the heck is it? Tempeh is made from slightly fermented soybeans and pressed…

Detox Wrap-Up and a Cookbook Giveaway!

I am officially done with my detox! In case you are just checking in, this past week I started a detox for the new year in order to jump start my weight loss (10lbs) that I am trying to lose. Check out my previous posts: Detox Day 1 Detox Update Detox Day 5 Day 6 and 7 didn’t go exactly as I had planned because I also had a 10K race on schedule for today. One of the Christmas gifts from my mom this year was a set of lotion & body cream from Bath & Body Works in Forever Sunshine. This new to me scent is AMAZING and I love the body cream! It smells…

    Guest Post–The Food Movement

My boyfriend Chris is a lot more eloquent than I am when it comes to writing about things that are important to him. After we went to see Michael Pollan on Tuesday, he had some big opinions, all of which I agree with him 100%. Here is his two cents. — It’s easy to see why Michael Pollan is so popular among his fans.  He is funny, he writes incredibly well, he is passionate, he’s charismatic and knows how to connect with his audience.  I received “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” for Christmas one year (one of many in my family to get that exact gift) and read each of his subsequent…

    Thrive Foods Book Review

I was recently sent the book Thrive Foods written by the professional Ironman triathlete Brendan Brazier and creator of Vega, to review for my blog. Since I really like books about nutrition and healthy lifestyles, I was really excited to read it! While I was sent the book free of charge, the opinions are 100% my own, and if I had a negative opinion on a product you would know. In this book, Brazier talks about plant-based foods and how they stack up nutritionally and how ultimately a plant-based diet will give us better health in the long run. He never specifically uses the term Vegan, but since I already…
