Another Sunday night, another weekend gone. Seriously, weekends go by way too fast!
Friday night was spend celebrating yet another one of my friend’s birthday. My friend Melissa invited a bunch of us to the Point for dinner and drinks. I couldn’t resist the sparking moscato and had two glasses of this delicious drink.
I seriously need to find myself a bottle of that! We had a pretty fantastic time!
Saturday morning I did my long run (more on that later), but after resting up my sister Julie and her boyfriend Brian invited me to go to Crossroads Brew Pub! Located in Athens, about 40 minutes south of Albany, Crossroads is the only cool thing in that small town. I grew up not far from there in New Scotland, where all the villages look the same (Selkirk, Ravena, Coxsackie, Athens…) and there is not much to do around those parts. Thankfully someone decided to open a brew pub that is definitely worth taking a drive down Route 9W to visit.
I ordered the Athens Mill, a honey rye amber ale.
It was very tasty! My sister got a sampler and I tried a few of those too.
I also liked the Stout and the Porter.
For lunch I got the house-made veggie burger, which I was surprised to see on the menu.
Made with spinach, beans and spent-grain (from the beer brewing process) and it was very tasty. The grains gave it a nice flavor and great texture. For $1 I added some cheddar cheese. The bun was nice and fluffy and didn’t get soggy when I was eating it, which was definitely awesome. It was one of the best veggie burgers I’ve had in a while. The fries were cut thin and were crispy, which is exactly how I love fries! I actually can’t wait to go back and get this meal again.
My sister and I also split a cinnamon cheesecake for dessert.
The cheesecake was nice and light, but I guess I was expecting something else. It was okay.
The bar was not too crowded when we got there around 2:30 so we sat there. The bartenders were friendly and helpful (one girl helped my sister get a stout stain out of her white shirt!), and service was good! It was definitely a place where the locals come to hang out!
Check it out if you are ever on your way South– or just take a drive from Albany, it’s worth it!
