You may be wondering the status of my detox this week!
I started the detox on Monday.
Tuesday I ate pretty much the exact same thing.
I’m happy to say its been going pretty well…I only strayed once yesterday.
For breakfast I had a protein smoothie, which was made with frozen bananas, almond milk & brown rice protein powder.

Lunch was another version of the veggie pupusas, but without the salsa and spinach and I turned them into tacos for easy portability, along with lots of fruit and nuts for snacks.
Dinner was where I strayed.
I was pretty hungry when I got home and I flipped through the cookbook to get some ideas. I also wanted something to sustain me for my three mile run later in the evening. I had ran out of a lot of my produce from earlier in the week so I wanted to make something with ingredients I had on hand and went with the chickpea burgers, which includes 1/4 cup of flour in the recipe…but I caved and made the burgers because they looked so good!

They were amazing!! The recipe made five patties total. I’m so glad I made them. And they’re only 140 calories per patty.
Still, I think I’ve done pretty good in the past three days. I haven’t touched the candy at work (my biggest downfall) or had any dairy. Eliminating sugar from my body was the main reason for this detox. I can also say my jeans feel a little bit more comfortable. One of my goals with this detox was to jump-start my weight loss for this year. I’m still struggling with those 10 pounds that I need to loose.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that when I tell people I’m doing a “detox” they usually say something like “OMG, I could never do that…I can’t give up ____”. Well, I never thought I could do it either, but giving up something for a week (like my beloved Greek yogurt, for example) isn’t that difficult. I know its only for a week, and I don’t plan on giving up dairy forever! Now I know I can do it.
I think this is kind of the same mentality I have when it comes to distance running. I say to myself, I can do anything for one more mile. Just like I can do anything for week. Its kind of the same thing.
Overall I still feel great. I’m not starving at all. Obviously not eating gluten has been a challenge for me. I suppose the real test will be this weekend, since its my mom’s birthday dinner. We’ll see how that goes…so stay tuned.

Hi Jen,
I read but don’t comment (bad lurker, bad!) I just wanted to pop in and say that I love your detox because it doesn’t seem crazy, like those lemon-juice and cayenne things. I’m generally a clean-eating vegetarian but have been eating way too many simple carbs, sugars and animal fats lately and you’ve inspired me to go vegan for a week or two, to get my cravings back in check.
I really like your way of thinking, “I can do anything for one more…” It’s very inspiring and can be applied to so many situations: I can hang in this job for one more year… I can do 15 more situps… I can stop putting salt on my food for one more week, okay… maybe one day haha! Hey, you’ve got to start with the little steps!
Thanks and keep up the great work Jen!
You’re right – detoxes are all about willpower. It’s funny because when I read your first post the other night I was all, “there’s no way I can do that” but tonight I feel motivated to do something like that!
