The Lean Green Bean

Spring Runoff 10K and 5K

Good evening!! Phew, I finally have a few minutes to blog! This weekend has been a whirlwind of fun, that’s for sure!!

Saturday was such a busy day for me!!! Chris and I were signed up to run not only a 10K in Albany but a 5K as well. The Spring Runoff was held at the Corning Preserve in downtown Albany yesterday morning!

I had to run a total of 12.0 miles yesterday, so in order to get the miles in for the day, Chris and I ran down from the race from his apartment, which was about 1.5 miles. It was a great warmup!

Warm Up

Total Distance – 1.5 miles
Mile 1 – 9:53
Mile .5 – 9:47

We got there and look we ran into! Other CDNY bloggers!!! Cynthia, Heather, Emily and Courtney were also running the race! Amanda and Melissa were there too, but I think they were taking the pictures! ;-)

It was so fun to run with these girls. Chris was also excited too…

So starting out this race, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel since I hadn’t done a long run outside in a few weeks. I decided not to ‘race’ this race and just treat it as my long run. It was kind of hard, but the race was so low key it wasn’t too bad! The course was along the Corning Trail, so it was nice to see the river!

Part of the trail was underwater, so the 10K and to be re-routed through another back part of the trail, which made it kind of interesting (and muddy!) I ran with Courtney for most of the race! When I saw the finish line I booked it! I finished the 10K in 1 hour and 1 minute. It was definitely not my best 10K time (actually, it was slower than my first 10K ever…) It was the first race I didn’t PR. At first I was kind of bummed, but now I’m okay with it. I realize its impossible for me to PR every race.

Gotta pause that Garmin…

10K Stats
Total Distance – 6.36 miles
Total Elapsed Time – 1:01:22
Average Pace – 9:39/mile
Mile 1 – 9:39
Mile 2 – 9:17
Mile 3 – 9:17
Mile 4 – 10:19
Mile 5 – 10:32
Mile 6 – 9:35

Soon it was time for the 5K start. Honestly, it was SO weird getting in line to run another race right after finishing a 10K. Chris and I both ended up running the 5K, while Cynthia and Emily walked it!

Some fuel for the 5k: a clif shot!

The 5K was tough. During the 10K I had a slight twinge in my left hip but it wasn’t bad enough to stop. Once I started running the 5K after the break between races, it was difficult to start running again. My hips felt so tight. I took a bunch of walking breaks during the 5K just to rest my hips a bit, and it helped! Eventually I got a pretty steady pace.

The 5K seemed waaaay shorter, 3.1 miles flew by…and soon I was running upon the finish line for the second time that day!

3.1 miles in 31:30. Another slower race for me, but I’m glad I didn’t race it! I took my time and finished my milage.

5K Stats
Total Distance – 3.18 miles
Total Elapsed Time – 31:27
Average Pace – 9:54/mile
Mile 1 – 10:09
Mile 2 – 10:19
Mile 3 – 10:29

Total milage for the day – 10.9 miles for both of us! Woohoo! I think we are ready for the Pittsburgh half marathon in TWO weeks!

I was sore after that (and Chris was tired) but I had a great time. Just in time to party…TBC!!!
